Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Simple Baked French Onion Gnocchi
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the onions for about 20 minutes until caramelized.
  3. Pour in ½ cup of white wine, scrape the bottom of the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes to reduce slightly.
  4. Stir in 2 cups of beef broth, 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add the gnocchi directly into the simmering broth and cook for 5-10 minutes until they float to the surface.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, spread it out evenly, and sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese on top.
  7. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is browned and bubbling.
  8. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving with French bread slices.
