Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large pot, add chopped starchy potatoes and cover with salted water; bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, then mash with butter.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat, melt remaining butter, and sauté chopped cabbage and onions until softened.
  4. Combine sautéed vegetables with the creamy mashed potatoes, adding salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Grease a baking dish and spoon the potato mixture evenly, smoothing the top.
  6. Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top and bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
  7. Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
