- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9x13-inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground nutmeg, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Alternate mixing dry ingredients into the butter mixture with the buttermilk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Do not over-mix.
- Spread the batter evenly in the baking pan and bake for 22-25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the bars cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the glaze, melt unsalted butter in a small saucepan over medium heat until golden brown. Whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste adjusting with milk if needed.
- Pour the glaze over the cooled bars and spread evenly. Let set before slicing.
