Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the almond paste, softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg. Stir until smooth.
  4. Spread the filling evenly down the center third of the puff pastry, leaving the outer thirds clean.
  5. Cut diagonal slits into the outer thirds of the pastry, about an inch wide.
  6. Gently fold the cut strips over the almond filling, alternating sides.
  7. Brush the top of the braided pastry with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  9. Allow cooling slightly before dusting with powdered sugar and serving.
