- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the almond paste, softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and half of the beaten egg. Stir until smooth.
- Spread the filling evenly down the center third of the puff pastry, leaving the outer thirds clean.
- Cut diagonal slits into the outer thirds of the pastry, about an inch wide.
- Gently fold the cut strips over the almond filling, alternating sides.
- Brush the top of the braided pastry with the remaining beaten egg and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
