Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a medium pot, combine 2½ cups of filtered water with 6 black tea bags, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract (if using), 2 pieces of star anise, 1 tablespoon of whole cardamom, and 1 cinnamon stick.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, watching for small bubbles to appear.
  3. Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Carefully strain the tea mixture through a sieve into a heatproof pitcher or bowl to remove the spices and tea bags.
  5. Allow it to cool slightly at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes.
  6. While the tea cools, fill two tall glasses with ice cubes.
  7. In a small bowl, whisk together ¼ cup of sweetened condensed milk and 2 tablespoons of evaporated milk until smooth.
  8. Carefully pour the brewed and slightly cooled tea over the prepared ice in the glasses.
  9. Pour the creamy milk mixture over the iced tea, allowing it to swirl.
