Ingredients

Frosting Ingredients
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Softened at room temperature
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar Sifted for smooth texture
  • ½ cup Apple Butter Homemade for quality
  • 2 tablespoons Milk Non-dairy option for lactose-free
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Use pure for best flavor
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon Optional, for added warmth
  • 1 pinch Salt Balances sweetness

Equipment

  • Electric Mixer
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula

Method

Directions
  1. Begin by taking 1 cup of unsalted butter and allowing it to soften at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Once softened, place the butter in a mixing bowl and use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat it for 2-3 minutes until it appears light and fluffy.
  2. With the mixer running on low speed, gradually incorporate 4 cups of sifted powdered sugar, adding one cup at a time. Mix until each addition is just combined.
  3. After mixing in all the powdered sugar, stop the mixer briefly and use a spatula to scrape down the sides of the bowl. This ensures any sugar stuck to the sides is fully incorporated.
  4. Now, add ½ cup of apple butter to the mixture. Increase the mixer speed to medium and blend for 1-2 minutes until well combined.
  5. Pour in 2 tablespoons of milk and 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract while mixing on low speed. Continue blending until the icing is fluffy and smooth, which should take about 1 minute.
  6. If you'd like to evoke a hint of warmth, mix in ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon and a pinch of salt. Blend this on low speed until the spices are fully incorporated.
  7. Examine the consistency of your icing; if it’s too thick, gradually add more milk, one teaspoon at a time.
  8. Once you have the right consistency, increase the mixer speed to medium-high. Whip the icing for another 1-2 minutes until it becomes light, airy, and fluffy.
  9. Finally, taste your Apple Buttercream Icing and adjust the flavors as needed.
