Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 170ºC (340ºF) and prepare two 8-inch baking pans with parchment paper and grease.
- Sift together flour, cornstarch, spices, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Cream together butter, granulated sugar, and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time to the creamed mixture, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually mix in half of the dry ingredients, then add sour cream, oil, and vanilla. Follow with the remaining dry ingredients.
- Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 28-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
- Prepare frosting by beating butter, powdered sugar, and brown sugar until blended, then incorporate cream cheese and vanilla bean paste.
- Level the cooled cake layers and assemble with frosting in between and around the sides.
- Decorate as desired and serve with a warm beverage.
